A short interview with Marianne Faithfull reminded me of a night in the early 90's when I saw her at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge. She has a 5-piece band with her, and she performed what felt more like a living room set versus a concert set. She talked, sang and smoked her way through the past 25 years. I remember people around me being a little stunned at how accessible she was (right there in front of us, explaining where many of these songs came from, and lighting up whenever she pleased.) That was living art produced by the artist herself. You could not ask for more.
