Ralph McQuarrie, R.I.P.

Ralph' McQuarrie's renderings of George Lucas' initial words about Star Wars got George the financing he needed to make his first Star Wars film.  (He had been turned down by two studios before the third studio, seeing Ralph's paintings, agreed to fund the movie.)  Ralph's imagination allowed Star Wars to get to the screen.

Ralph McQuarrie developed artwork for many other seminal productions: Battlestar Galactica (first TV show), the mother ship in Close Encounters of The Third Kind and many more memorable productions.  Ralph worked on each of the first Star Wars films, too.

Cheers,

Greg
